Welcome to the WF Workcamp Leader 2009 Blog !

Dear Worldwide Friends Workcamp Leader of the summer 2009 !

We hope you all have and had a great summer experience here in Iceland. How were your workcamps ? What did you do and how was the group, local host, work, weather etc ? This year we have so many workcamps going on and so many leaders coming and going that its impossible to share in person your own workcamp experience with every single other leader.
And thats why we have a blog !!!

Its not only nice, no its obligatory for every workcamp leader to write a summary at the end of camp (or afterwards 'cause a lot of leader already left Iceland) and post it online so every other leader can get an overview and idea what is and was going on this summer in our big Veraldarvinir-family! It belongs this year to the tasks (like doing a kitchen schedule or filling out the evaluation forms) of a leader to add your workcamp story to our blog, and every body is more than supposed to do so. It really doesnt take long and is not complicated at all, so there are no excuses for not doing it. From the over 50 workcamps which are already finished, we just have 5 (!!) summaries online - why not more ? Take these ones as an example and wrote your own one, no matter if you're now separated from your co-leader, he/she can then add more afterwards.

So, it would be great if each and every single one of us could contribute to keep the blog updated and alive, to share experiences and you are free to add whatever you think could be useful also for other volunteers. In the section "Your workcamp" we would like to ask all leaders to write after every camp a little summary about your project. You could also add some nice pictures, spread some ideas about free time activities, tell us about new games you learned, what kind of work you did and everything else you would like to share.
In case you were attending the leader training and STILL HAVEN'T WRITTEN "your day" online, PLEASE DO IT NOW ! Its not to late, and your contribution can even help next years leaders and all other the remember our On-Arrival-Training.

Write the entry about your workcamp in the workcamp section. You can for example include the following stuff on the post:

Place of work camp (free time activities, etc)

Group (size, people, nationalities)

Accommodation (cons, pros, etc)

local host

Work (working hours, duties)

Free time

Problems

Tips for new leaders

Adding a few pictures would also be awesome to actually show the group and the results of your work. A picture tells more than thousand words.

Getting Started

Some of you are already in Iceland, attending our 2-weeks On-Arrival-Training at the moment, some will join our "family" later during the summer.

The Training is going great, we, a group of appr. 17 motivated future workcamp leader + trainers, were staying last week in Hveragerði in the South of Iceland. We had one week of

- working in the green areas of the health clinic we were lived,

- learning loads about leading workcamps, conflict resolution, group dynamics and and and...

- gaining hands-on experience in leading groups by "learning by doing" and leading for a day our group of leaders and another day the workcamp taking place in the same town

- laughing a lot, playing games, having tons of fun, getting to know each other, celebrating Iceland's second place in the Eurovision Songcontest ;)

- enjoying yummy vegetarian food (ok, some of us were very exiting about the fish twice a week... lol)

- having a great hike on the day off to a hot river and a nice barbecue in the evening

- and and and.... :)

Unfortunately not all of you could be here right now joining us already and that's one reason why we created a blog/wiki to share our experiences with the whole worldwide friends-family, even though we haven't met yet. The idea of this blog is to have an internal platform for all leaders (and drivers & office staff of course)to have a resource and summary of what we did during the training (every day one leader was assigned to write about the day), to get to know each other and stay in touch during the summer (please write something about yourself and add a picture in the "About us" section) and also to know what the other members are doing during the summer, where they are and how the camps are going.

It would be great if every single one of us could contribute to keep the blog updated and alive, to share experiences and you are free to add whatever you think could be useful also for other volunteers. In the section "Your workcamp" we would like to ask all leaders to write after every camp a little summary about your project. You could also add some nice pictures, spread some ideas about free time activities, tell us about new games you learned, what kind of work you did and everything else you would like to share.

... more text coming soon Could anybody please write a nice introduction ? That would be awesome...
